A while ago I was watching the movie Stepmom on TV. I've seen it before, but I hadnt noticed that old boy Bryan Adams' song was in there, too. And a smashing one at that. Bryan Adams is definitely reputed to be the world's best ever live singer. I've listened to him studio recorded, I've listened to him MTV Unplugged, and I've listened to him recorded from a live performance. He's truly awesome. Summer of 69 is so amazing, it never misses hitting the spot whenever you listen to it.
But then I quite listening to music a long time ago. This particular song that I heard in this movie, brought back old fond memories. The song is called When you love someone. It's one of my favorites and I absolutely loved the MTV unplugged version of it. Here are its lyrics.
When you love someone - you’ll do anything
You’ll do all the crazy things that you can’t explain
You’ll shoot the moon - put out the sun
When you love someone
You’ll deny the truth - believe a lie
There’ll be times that you’ll believe you can really fly
But your lonely nights - have just begun
When you love someone
When you love someone - you’ll feel it deep inside
And nothin else can ever change your mind
When you want someone - when you need someone
When you love someone...
When you love someone - you’ll sacrifice
You’d give it everything you got and you won’t think twice
You’d risk it all - no matter what may come
When you love someone
You’ll shoot the moon - put out the sun
When you love someone
And then there's Jon Bon Jovi that I like very much. They had a soundtrack for a movie, which I think was called Young guns. That soundtrack, by the way, was the first thing I ever listened to on a compact disc on our first ever Aiwa CD player. It belonged to a friend of mine and he leant it to me. Billy get your guns, Blaze of glory, Blood money, absolutely awesome songs. I also used to enjoy Def Leppard. These guys were great.
I was also watching The terminal starring Tom Hanks and I loved it very much. Tom Hanks is truly the best actor ever born. I've seen him do all sorts of characters and he does them like no other and leaves you feeling short of nothing. Mel Gibson is cool, too, with his emotional scenes, but this guy, Tom Hanks is a maestro.
In this movie, towards the end (advance apologies to the ladies), when Tom Hanks is about to kiss Catherine Zeta Jones (cant blame him for that, by the way), my brother switched the channels to Geo, where nothing short of pornography was being played in terms of a hindi song, but that channel stayed put. I wonder why more is acceptable in a more recognizable language.

Speaking of Bryan Adam. Here is a news I read very recently.
Yes, I had seen the ticker on TV last night and was considering going to Karachi to attend this show if he wasnt conducting one in Lahore, but having read that Shahzad Roy is organizing it, I wouldnt go there.
Good God! We never disucssed music, only Web services, Service Orientation and .NET :)
You have got good taste :). I also like Bryan Adams, Bon Jovi and Def Leppards. They all have one thing in common i.e. Rock Ballads. Otherwise they play different kind of music.
Well, we didnt discuss it because I quit listening to music when I was in the US and discovered how seriously the religion was against it. I disposed of all my casettes and CDs at that time and have never bought one since then. I avoid listening to music. Except occassionally when on a bus on long route with a bunch of idiots listening to the freaking vulgar punjabi stage show at full volume on their headphones, I plug my MP3 player into my ears and listen to a few Tariq Aslam songs.
What has religion got to do with music?
Everything!
u said u have stopped listening to music.. then why u wanna go to BA concert in karachi?
@ Music.. hmm right.. i understand and respect your point. I wud luv to goto this concert. I dont goto concerts at all but i believe this might be very tempting. If i'm in town then i'd go and will post u on that :)
cheers!
btw who is Tariq Aslam ?
@Anonymous
He never said he has stopped listening to music altogether. What he said is that he is not as keen a listener as he used to be.
Anonymous bhai/behan is back again! A big hand for him/her. <applause / >
Well, the thing is that I dont wantt to go there to develop a habit or to get a feel for what a concert environment is like, or for tafreeh. Think of it this way: I'd love to hear Stephen Hawking speak, even though I am not a physicist, and even though he has a disease called ALS due to which, he can not, technically, speak, except for a speech synthesizer. So, I would have liked to go see this man that I listened to for a long time and see if it is true what they say about his skill at live performances. Put video into the audio clips that I have somewhere in the dark corners of my mind of him singing in a concert, and people going "na na na na ...." over "Cuts like a knife."
thank u for the applause.. :) dear sir, i m not one of those anonymous's who went crazy on PAF KIET post.. sir, i am mahrukh tanveer if u remember.. & i dint ask u this question with some bad (or taunting) intentions.. i was just curious how have u justified it.. or may be i was kinda jealous that u can come from lahore to attend such an expensive show & i, living in karachi still cannot afford to go[have to take bros along:( ].. ;)
Mahrukh, I didnt actually taunt with that applause. I was just feeling playful. Everybody would love a bit of applause every now and then. As for the PAF KIET fellows, I have no grudge against them, I have nothing against them at all. They feel the way they feel, and I feel the way I feel. Maybe my perception is different from reality, maybe theirs is. And I hope we would all grow up to accept that.
Well, Mahrukh, if you like his performance, I'd suggest you go. Letting an opportunity go and then regretting it later wouldnt be something to fancy. All the best and thanks for reading. Keep sharing your comments with me.
